Terms of use

Plain terms for a learning app. By using Doomscholar you agree to them.

The service

Doomscholar is run by Afsal Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("we"). It explains ideas in layers, links them to one another and to their sources, and helps you remember them with spaced review. It is free to use during the beta. If paid features are added, their price and renewal terms will be shown clearly before you buy, and you can cancel online at any time.

Education, not advice

Everything in Doomscholar is general educational material about ideas. Many of them come from investing, business, psychology and medicine, but nothing here is financial, investment, legal, medical or psychological advice, or a recommendation to act. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions in those areas.

Explanations are written with AI assistance. They can contain mistakes or simplifications, which is why every idea links to its original sources. If you spot an error, tell us at dean@doomscholar.com.

Your progress is yours — and on your device

There are no accounts. Your progress, notes and settings are stored only on your device (see the privacy policy). We can't recover them if your browser or device deletes them, so use the export in You → Backup to keep a copy. You own anything you write in the app.

Who owns what

  • The Doomscholar name, mark, design, software and original explanations belong to us. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial learning, and share links to them freely.
  • Quotations and source excerpts belong to their authors and publishers. They are short, attributed and linked to the original so you can read the full work where it was published.
  • Each saved source is labelled for what it is: a short excerpt, Wikipedia text used under CC BY-SA 4.0, or our own notes about a work — never presented as someone else's words when they are ours.
  • Mention of a thinker, author or company describes their ideas. It doesn't mean they endorse or are affiliated with us.

Copyright concerns

If you believe something in Doomscholar infringes your rights, email dean@doomscholar.com with the work, where it appears in the app, and how to reach you. We'll review it promptly and remove or shorten anything that shouldn't be there.

Fair use of the app

Please don't scrape or bulk-copy the content, disrupt or overload the service, try to get around its security, or present our content as your own. We may block access that does.

App stores

If you install Doomscholar from the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store's terms also apply, and any purchase is handled by the store under its billing, renewal and refund rules. Apple and Google aren't responsible for the app or its content.

No guarantees, limited liability

Doomscholar is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it accurate and running but don't promise it will be error-free, uninterrupted or right for your purpose. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, and our total liability for anything relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or USD 50 if you paid nothing). Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the app means you accept it. You can stop using Doomscholar at any time by clearing its data or uninstalling it. We may change or discontinue features.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Emirate of Dubai and the federal laws of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of Dubai have jurisdiction — unless the consumer law of the country you live in gives you the right to use your local courts and laws.
